Pune: Prostitution Racket Busted in Dighi; Two Women Rescued, Lodge Owner Arrested

Dighi, 23rd February 2024: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Crime Branch conducted a raid on a lodge, rescuing two women from the prostitution business.

The operation took place on Tuesday (20th February) around 6.30 pm at Sunshine Lodge on Khadi Machine Road, Wadmukhwadi. The lodge owner, identified as Nitin Raosaheb Kokere (28 years old, residing in Vishrantwadi), has been arrested. Police Constable Maruti Karchunde of the AHTU filed a complaint at Dighi Police Station.

The AHTU, under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doifode, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satish Mane, successfully conducted a raid based on information provided by Police Inspector Devendra Chavan of the AHTU.

The raid targeted Sunshine Lodge on Khadi Machine Road, Wadmukhwadi, under Dighi Police Station, where it was reported that an individual was operating a prostitution business under the guise of a lodge. The suspect was allegedly enticing women with monetary offers and engaging them in the illicit trade.

During the operation on Tuesday evening, the police detained lodge owner Nitin Kokre and rescued two female victims from his custody. A cash amount of 2,090 rupees was also seized. Investigations have revealed that Nitin Kokre earns his livelihood from the proceeds of the prostitution business. The Dighi police are currently handling the investigation.

This successful operation was carried out by the diligent efforts of Police Inspector Devendra Chavan and the AHTU, including Police Constables Sunil Shirasath, Bhagwanta Muthe, Maruti Karchunde, Vaishnavi Gawde, Sangita Jadhav, Reshma Zawre, and Sonali Mane.
