Wadgaon Budruk, 25th October 2024: A case under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956 has been registered against eight women involved in prostitution near the Navale Bridge area on the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass of the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. Complaints were made to the police about the women making obscene gestures and causing trouble for residents in the area. The police registered a case following a citizen’s complaint.

In the Navale Bridge area, several women were reportedly standing by the roadside and engaging in prostitution. Residents were disturbed by the obscene gestures, which also caused discomfort for women passing through the area. Residents had repeatedly requested the Sinhagad Road Police to take action against the women. However, no action was taken initially.

The service road near Navale Bridge is heavily trafficked, and the area is known for frequent serious accidents. After continued complaints and follow-ups from citizens, the police finally registered a case against eight women residing in the Navale Bridge area. Police Sub-Inspector Suresh Jaybhaye reported this incident to the Sinhagad Road Police Station, stating that citizens were being harassed by women making obscene gestures at night.

Following this, a police team led by Senior Police Inspector Raghavendra Singh Kshirsagar took action and detained the eight women. A case was registered under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and Police Inspector (Crime) Uttam Bhajanawale is now investigating. Previously, women involved in prostitution were sent to reformatory institutions as part of a rehabilitation effort, by court orders, as they were considered victims. The Sinhagad Road Police have stated that filing a case against these women, in response to citizen complaints, will help curb illegal activities in the Navale Bridge area.
