Pune, 28th June 2024: In a significant move aimed at regularizing unauthorized tap connections across the city, the Water Supply Department’s proposal to implement the Abhay Yojana was approved during today’s standing committee meeting.

The Abhay Yojana, introduced to tackle the rising number of unauthorized tap connections, received the green light from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Administrator and Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale. The initiative aims not only to formalize these connections but also to enhance the revenue streams of the Municipal Corporation while ensuring equitable access to official water connections for citizens.

Under the approved scheme, residents within the municipal limits and the newly included 34 villages will benefit from the regularization of unauthorized taps. This decision comes amidst concerns over the proliferation of unauthorized connections, which have posed challenges to the efficient management of water distribution by the Municipal Corporation.

One of the key highlights of the Abhay Yojana is the simplification of the documentation process required for authorization. Previously cumbersome, the new scheme reduces the number of necessary documents significantly. Applicants now need to furnish essential documents such as proof of ownership, income tax payment receipt for the current year, Aadhaar card, and a construction occupation letter if available. Additionally, a bond on a stamp paper of Rs 500 completes the requisite paperwork.
