Pune: Prison Implements New Policy to Allow In-Person Visits with Under-Trial Prisoners’ Children and Family Members

Pune, 21st April 2023: Maharashtra Prison Department has announced a new policy that will allow male and female under-trial prisoners and female prisoners to meet with their children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters outside of prison. The initiative is aimed at fostering greater family harmony and strengthening the bonds between prisoners and their relatives.

The new policy, which was announced today, allows for face-to-face meetings between prisoners and their family members under the age of 16. The move is intended to promote acceptance and equal treatment for prisoners within their families and society at large and to encourage prisoners to develop sympathy and affection for their families, Additional Director General of Police (prisons) Amitabh Gupta.

According to officials, the initiative will help reduce depression among inmates and raise awareness about their family situations. It is hoped that the new policy will facilitate greater harmony between prisoners and their relatives and promote the Department of Prisons’ motto of “Reformation and Rehabilitation.”

The policy is being implemented through the issuance of notices and circulars by the Prison Department. It is expected that the new policy will help solve educational and domestic problems faced by prisoners and their families.

All prison superintendents in the state have been ordered to take action to implement the new policy, which is expected to create an atmosphere of satisfaction and affection among prisoners and their families. The policy is being hailed as a positive step towards promoting greater family harmony and strengthening the bonds between prisoners and their loved ones.
