Pune, 27th July 2024: Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has announced the postponement of its 21st convocation ceremony, originally scheduled for July 29, 2024. The decision follows the postponement of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Maharashtra.

Previously, Punekar News had reported that 14 schools in the Sus area were asked to remain shut on July 29 due to President Murmu’s presence at the convocation. However, the ceremony has now been called off due to the President’s rescheduled visit.

In an official statement, Symbiosis University expressed regret over the development. “We deeply regret to inform you that the President of India has postponed her visit to the State of Maharashtra scheduled from 28th to 30th July, 2024, vide communication dated 26th July, 2024. The Office of the President of India has also communicated to the University that due to unavoidable circumstances, the acceptance of the invitation to the Convocation scheduled on 29th July, 2024 stands postponed,” the statement read.

The university also cited the ongoing heavy rainfall and the resulting advisory from the Department of Disaster Management, Government of Maharashtra, as factors in the decision. “Due to continued heavy rainfalls in and around the city of Pune and release of water from dams, the Department of Disaster Management, Govt. of Maharashtra has advised to exercise caution,” the statement continued.

Symbiosis emphasized the safety and well-being of its students and their families as the primary concern. “Given the current weather situation and the forecasts indicating continued adverse conditions, we believe this decision is in the best interest of everyone involved. The safety and well-being of our students and their families are of utmost importance to us.”

The university acknowledged the disappointment this postponement may cause and assured students and their families that a new date for the convocation would be scheduled. “We understand the significance of Convocation as a milestone in our students’ academic journey and the disappointment that this news may bring to them. The University will plan the Convocation Ceremony at a later date to celebrate the achievements of our students. In the meantime, we appreciate the cooperation from our students and their parents at this time.”
