Pune, 16th September 2023: As the much-anticipated Ganesh festival approaches, Pune is gearing up with a comprehensive security plan to ensure safety and order during the celebrations. Approximately seven thousand police personnel will be deployed across the city to manage the festivities. The Pune police have devised this security arrangement with considerations for potential terror threats and unforeseen incidents, aiming to guarantee a peaceful and joyful festival experience.

The historical Ganeshotsav, set to commence on September 19, is expected to draw both local and out-of-state tourists. To accommodate the large crowds, the police have designed an elaborate security plan. Under the leadership of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, DCP (Special Branch), R. Raja, has meticulously organized the security arrangements.

One notable aspect of the security plan is the deployment of plainclothed policemen to deter incidents of theft, such as mobile phones and ornaments. The police force responsible for this grand operation includes five thousand officers from the Police Commissionerate, Quick Response Teams, Crime Branch units, as well as 1,300 police personnel from outside Pune and 1,000 Home Guards. Additionally, five CRPF teams will be on hand to bolster security measures, ensuring a safe environment for all.

During the festival, Police Mitras, or citizen volunteers assisting the police, will offer their support to maintain order. To address potential threats, bomb squads will conduct inspections at crowded locations near revered Ganpati mandals. Specially trained dogs and police personnel will carry out security checks in densely populated areas.

The police have also taken measures to enhance surveillance during the festival, with the installation of 1,800 CCTV cameras. Mandals and festival organizers have been urged to set up CCTV cameras within their pandal areas to further aid monitoring efforts.
