Pune, 10th October 2024: A significant development has emerged in the Kalyani Nagar Porsche accident case, as the Maharashtra State Government has taken strict action against two members of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).

The JJB had granted bail to the minor accused within 15 hours of the accident and imposed a lenient condition, including writing a 300-word essay and working with the police for two weeks. This decision came despite the minor, who was intoxicated while driving a Porsche, being involved in a fatal collision that killed two young IT engineers.

The lenient punishment sparked nationwide outrage, with the case trending on social media for days. Subsequently, the bail was revoked, and the minor was sent to an Observation Home for boys. The same JJB officials who granted the initial bail have now been dismissed, as the Maharashtra Government removed the two state-appointed JJB members from Pune on charges of abuse of power.

The minor, while driving a Porsche under the influence in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, struck and killed Ashwini Koshta and Anish Awadhiya, a young woman and man riding a two-wheeler. The boy was arrested immediately after the incident. However, upon being presented before the JJB, the judge granted him bail with the unusual conditions of writing a 300-word essay and spending time with the police to learn about traffic rules.

As part of his bail conditions, the boy was required to write an essay on what actions should be taken after an accident or how to prevent one. After his release from the Observation Home for Boys, the minor submitted the essay through his lawyer.
