Pune Porsche Case: Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Mother of Teen Driver Accused

New Delhi/Pune, 22nd April 2025: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Shivani Agarwal, the mother of a teenager allegedly involved in a fatal Porsche crash that claimed the lives of two IT professionals last year in Kalyaninagar, Pune. Agarwal had been arrested following revelations that her blood sample was used to replace her son’s during the investigation.
The apex court extended this relief even as it reserved its judgment on a petition that questions the legality of her arrest. During the proceedings, the bench noted that the chargesheet in the case had already been submitted and that the accused had remained in custody for a considerable period.
Agarwal has contested the manner of her detention, asserting that she was neither informed of the arrest grounds verbally nor provided written notice at the time she was taken into custody. Her legal team emphasized her right to safeguards under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), particularly provisions meant to protect women from arbitrary detention.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the alleged manipulation of evidence and the involvement of an underage driver in a luxury vehicle.
