Pune Police To Strengthen Security, Plans to Install 1,500 CCTVs in the City

Pune, October 9, 2020: The Pune city police chief initiates to strengthen the CCTV camera network in the city for the security of Punekars along with maintaining law and order. The Pune Police has decided to install 1,500 high-capacity cameras across the city in the coming few days, announced Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta on Thursday.

The commissioner stated that new schemes and provisions will be implemented to make the city safer for Puneities. Already, CCTV cameras are installed at every chowk, to strengthen the securing more cameras will be installed there. This will also help in strengthening the law and order in Pune. All the faulty CCTV cameras will be repaired. The capabilities of CCTV cameras have changed over time, therefore keeping this in mind, the emphasis will be on updating all CCTVs.

The proposal for the installation of new CCTV cameras will be prepared in eight days and implemented immediately. Due to the growing population, the boundaries of police stations will have to be restructured. For this, the previously constituted Deputy Commissioner’s offices are yet to get the approval from the Maharashtra government. A proposal regarding the restructuring will also be prepared and sent to the office of the Director General of Police. After their approval, new surveys will be conducted and constituencies with police stations will be formed, informed Gupta.

The Pune police is planning to implement the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) for resolving the traffic congestion problem in the city. Gupta stated that the traffic management plan has to be done considering the next 25 to 30 years of transportation. A number of decisions will have to be taken to resolve the transport issue and it is planned to provide adequate officers and staff for this, he said.
