Pune Police Take Action Against Over 10,000 Autorickshaw Drivers For Violating Rules

Pune, 28th September 2021: Police officials have intensified their action against unruly rickshaw drivers in the city. Accordingly, punitive action has been taken against more than 10,856 rickshaw drivers in a month.

 

The action has been taken against drivers who do not have a license, do not have a badge, transport passengers without a permit, and do not have a uniform.

Earlier this month many autorickshaw drivers were arrested for kidnapping and raping minor girls. Since then the crackdown has begun.

 

Between September 1 and 26, the police took action against 8,502 rickshaw drivers for not wearing uniforms. Apart from that, 1,605 rickshaw drivers were fined for not having a license. Penalties have been collected from 752 drivers found without their badges.

 

Now, many rickshaw drivers seem to follow the rules and the arrogance of some rickshaw drivers in Swargate, Sangamwadi and Pune station area has also come down. Officials said that most of the rickshaw drivers, especially those wearing uniforms and badges, were found to be providing good service to the passengers.

 

Rahul Shrirame, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) said that action is being taken against unruly drivers. Emphasis has been laid on curbing the rude treatment of passengers by rickshaw drivers.
