Pune, 25th October 2024: The Vishrambaug police have registered a case against a fake doctor accused of practicing medicine without a valid medical degree.

The accused, identified as Pandurang Babanrao Devadkar, 40, is a resident of Navi Peth. The complaint was filed by Dr. Gopal Ujwankar, 38, at the Vishrambaug Police Station.

Authorities were alerted to Devadkar’s activities when the health department of the municipal corporation received information about him examining patients and prescribing medication based solely on pulse checks, despite lacking any medical qualifications. Following the report, an inquiry was conducted, confirming that Devadkar possessed neither a medical degree nor a business certificate.

As a result, a case has been registered against him under Section 33(1) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. Police Sub-Inspector Khade is currently leading the investigation.

The presence of fake doctors practicing medicine without the requisite qualifications has become a concerning trend in Pune. Recently, Mehmood Farooq Shaikh was arrested in Koregaon, Shirur taluka, for treating patients under a false identity and using a fraudulent medical degree. Another individual, Mahesh Patil, was also found operating a hospital under a fake name.

In a separate case, Ramakrishna Reddy, 66, who had worked as an assistant in the surgery department, set up a clinic in the Mundhwa area after retirement, relying on a questionable certificate from an association in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, a bogus doctor known as Torane was arrested in the Loni Kalbhor area, while Totaya, who operated a treatment center for piles in Warje, was also apprehended.

Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious medical practices to help combat the issue of unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals in the community.
