Pune Police Take Action Against 15 Hotels, Pubs For Noise Pollution; Seize Sound Equipment Worth Rs 37.80 Lakh

Pune, 28th April 2023: The mellifluous melodies that once filled the air in the posh neighbourhoods of Pune have been replaced by a cacophony of discordant sounds that have left residents distressed. But relief is finally in sight as the Pune city police have responded to the complaints of citizens and activists and have launched a stern crackdown against establishments causing noise pollution.

The social security cell of the Pune city police has been instrumental in taking swift action against such establishments, seizing sound equipment worth a staggering Rs 37.80 lakh in the last three months alone. This crackdown comes as a welcome relief to residents who have been subjected to constant disruptions to their daily lives.

The pulse-pounding beats of music emanating from hotels and pubs in Koregaon Park, a neighbourhood famous for its nightlife, have been a thorn in the side of residents for far too long. In fact, nine of the complaints the police received were regarding businesses in this very neighbourhood. But the social security cell did not stop there, taking action against establishments in Yerwada, Mundhwa, Bund Garden, Viman Nagar, and Chaturshringi areas as well.

The latest raid on April 24 saw the Talli Bar and Kitchen in Lane 7 of Koregaon Park facing the brunt of the police’s ire. Sound equipment worth a whopping Rs 4.80 lakh was seized, and a case has been registered against the owner and manager of the establishment at Koregaon Park police station under the relevant sections of the law.

Residents in Koregaon Park, Viman Nagar, and Baner Pashan have breathed a sigh of relief, as the police have finally taken their concerns seriously.

Amol Zende, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said, “We regularly receive complaints on Twitter and in the control room (112) regarding noise pollution. Upon receipt of a complaint, we dispatch our social security cell team to investigate the details and take appropriate action against any offenders. Over the past three months, we have successfully registered 15 cases, resulting in the seizure of equipment worth Rs 37.80 lakh. Our commitment to identifying and addressing such violations demonstrates our dedication to protecting those who may be at risk and promoting a safer community for all.”
