Pune, 18th May 2024: The Pune branch of the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has filed a case against a police sub-inspector for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs from an employee of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).

Identified as police sub-inspector Dattatraya Shegar, the accused is currently serving at Chandan Nagar police station. According to the ACB, Shegar approached the MSEDCL employee under the guise of investigating a case involving the theft of an electricity meter. He purportedly threatened to take action against the employee unless he paid a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs.

Upon receiving a complaint from the MSEDCL staffer, the ACB launched an investigation on May 10. Subsequently, it was confirmed that Shegar had indeed demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs initially, which was later negotiated down to Rs 3 lakhs.
