Pune, 12th September 2024: Pune police have begun cracking down on those using laser lights during processions for both Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav ceremonies.

Cases have been registered against six individuals involved in supplying laser beam equipment. Additionally, the police have initiated action against Ganesh mandals for violating noise limits, with cases registered against three mandals so far.

Among those charged are Prabhakar Pawar, Harshad Bhal Singh (35), Rakesh Chaudhary (32), Ganesh Yadav (30) from Fursungi, Ajinkya Dhamal (33) from Bhekrai Nagar, Manoj Jagtap (38) from Dhamalwadi, Mahadev Khapane (33) from Kolhapur, Roshan Patil from Sasane Nagar, Ashish Chavan from Hadapsar, Aniket Jagtap from Sasane Nagar, and Mohammad Ashiq from Kerala.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar had previously ordered strict action against the use of laser lights during Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav. On Saturday (September 7), several Ganesh mandals took out processions during which sound systems and laser lights were reportedly used, prompting police to register cases.

In the Mundhwa area, three mandals were charged for exceeding noise limits during Ganeshotsav. Many mandals were found using high-capacity sound systems, leading police to intensify their crackdown on noise violations.

Authorities have issued warnings against the use of laser beams and high-powered sound systems during processions.

The Lohgaon area, home to an Air Force base and a civil airport, has been a particular concern. Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma has enforced a ban on laser beams, citing the risk of accidents.
