Pune Police Receive 181 Complaints Related To Noise Pollution During Dahi Handi Celebration, Most From Kothrud

Pune 9th Sept 2023: The majority of calls answered by Pune City Police’s control room on September 7 were related to noise pollution in various areas of the city due to loudspeakers being used to celebrate the Dahi Handi festival. According to officials, a total of 181 such calls were handled at the control room’s helpline number 112 in a day.

As the festival was celebrated across the city the mandals and organisers had installed huge loudspeakers while at some places live performance of celebrities was also organised. These events broke the sound limits set by the high court and violated the norms, claimed the callers who dialed 112 to complain the matter to the city police.

According to the police officials at the control room, the majority of these complaints were handled by police response vehicles. Maximum number of calls were received fromKothrud where 23 citizens dialed the Pune Police to complain about noise pollution while 20 calls were received from Sinhagad Road. A total of 14 calls were received from Bharti Vidyapeeth area, 13 calls were received from Vishrambag area, 12 calls were received from Khadak Police Station jurisdiction and one complaint each was received from Vishrantwadi, Uttam Nagar and Bund Garden area.
