Pune Police Provide Real-World Exposure to Law Students

Pune, 24th October 2024: Fourth-year law students from the School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Lavasa, conducted an extensive educational visit to 14 police stations in Pune, offering them practical exposure to the functioning of law enforcement agencies. The initiative was supported by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, aiming to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application.

Organized under the leadership of Father Lijo Thomas, Dean and Director of Christ University Lavasa Campus, and supported by Father Justin P. Varghese, Academic Coordinator; Dr. Anto Sabastian, Head of the Department; and Chetan Dixit, Programme Coordinator, the visit was executed by Dr. Madhavi More and Akanksha Shrivastava, coordinators of the Legal Aid Committee.

The students were divided into eight groups, each visiting different police stations, including Chaturshingi, Deccan, Shivajinagar, Bharti Vidyapeeth, Sahakarnagar, Warje Malwadi, Sinhagad Road, Kothrud, Vishrambaug Wada, Faraskhana, Yerwada, Vimantal, Chandan Nagar, and Vishrantwadi.

During the visit, senior police officers and station in-charges took time out of their busy schedules to guide the students through key areas, such as the process of filing FIRs, maintaining police diaries, and handling crucial records. Students also gained insight into the operations of the cyber cell, technical analysis teams, police custody procedures, and weapons management.
