Pune, 4th July 2024: In the high-profile case involving drug dealer Lalit Patil, Pune Police have taken decisive action over the past 6-7 months. Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced that two officers have been permanently removed from duty. Previously, some officers were suspended, but recent findings have led to the permanent dismissal of two police officers. A charge sheet has been filed against 15 individuals, including staff from Sassoon Hospital and police personnel. The Pune Police Crime Branch has submitted a 3,150-page charge sheet to the court.

The two dismissed police constables, Adesh Shivankar and Pirappa Bansode, have been accused of aiding Lalit Patil in his escape and have been removed from government service. Drug smuggler Lalit Patil escaped after being taken to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. Although he was later re-arrested, his initial escape caused chaos within the police force. Patil was taken to the Sassoon General Hospital for an X-ray, and after his escape, the control room was not informed for nearly three hours.

The investigation revealed that Shivankar and Bansode did not accompany Lalit Patil for the X-ray. Furthermore, the delay in informing the control room about the escape allowed Patil to flee. The inquiry concluded that both constables failed to notify their senior officers and the control room, which allowed Lalit Patil to escape. As a result, they have been ordered to be removed from government service.
