Pune Police Nab Murder Accused Within an Hour in Mundhwa Case

Mundhwa, 11th June 2024: In a swift operation, Pune Police apprehended a murder suspect within an hour after discovering an injured man who later died at Sassoon General Hospital. The incident occurred near Kamgar Maidan in Mundhwa at midnight on Monday (10th June).

The deceased, identified as Shrikant Nivrutti Alhat, aged 42, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His brother, Santosh Nivrutti Alhat, filed a complaint at Mundhwa Police Station, leading to the arrest of Rakesh Tukaram Gaikwad, Shrikant’s maternal cousin, under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder).

According to police reports, a call alerted the control room to a severely injured man near Kamgar Maidan in Mundhwa. Police responded promptly, transporting him to Sassoon Hospital, where he died from his injuries. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the death was due to murder.

The investigation revealed that Shrikant had a fight with his cousin Gaikwad on 9th June. During the altercation, Gaikwad allegedly assaulted Shrikant with various weapons, including a cement block, brick, and iron objects.

Mundhwa Police swiftly mobilized their team and apprehended Gaikwad within an hour of the incident.
