Pune, 23rd June 2023: Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has initiated a special security campaign aimed at ensuring the safety of working women returning home at night, particularly those employed in IT companies. The campaign, which will commence today, will involve the Crime Branch, Traffic Branch, and local police.

Police Commissioner Kumaarr stated that night police patrolling will be intensified throughout the city, and preventive action will be taken against individuals with a criminal background. This decision comes in response to a recent incident where an autorickshaw driver attempted to sexually assault a young computer engineer in the Wanwadi area. The woman managed to avert a major disaster by promptly contacting the control room, leading to the arrest of the rickshaw driver by the Wanwadi police.

This incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of women commuting from IT companies at night, prompting Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr to take serious notice. He has instructed all senior police inspectors, including those from the crime branch and traffic police, to implement necessary precautions for women’s safety.

The campaign will encompass the following measures:

Increased night patrolling by the police force across the city.
Conducting security awareness activities in IT companies.
Checking the licenses and permits of rickshaw drivers, as well as scrutinizing private vehicles and drivers from platforms like Uber and Ola.
Taking preventive action against individuals with a criminal background.
Deployment of police personnel around Swargate, Shivajinagar bus stands, and the railway stations to deter robbery incidents targeting passengers arriving from outside the city.
Stringent action against reckless driving during late hours and individuals with criminal records.
Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr also urged women to utilize the helpline number 1091, dedicated to assisting women in distress. Additionally, the Police Control Room number, 112, remains available for emergency situations.
