Pune Police Intensify Drunk Driving Crackdown After Kalyani Nagar Accident

Pune, 22nd May 2024: Following the fatal accident in Kalyani Nagar, the Pune traffic police have launched a citywide operation targeting drunk drivers. On Tuesday night, numerous offenders were fined as part of this intensified effort.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil announced that checkpoints would be set up every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 AM to 3 AM in areas with pubs and bars.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday and directed police officials to take stringent action against drunk driving. In response, the police have initiated immediate measures to enhance road safety and prevent further incidents.

“The crackdown on drunk driving is a priority. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and will be vigilant in our efforts,” Patil stated.

These actions follow a tragic incident in which a Porsche car, driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals.
