Pune: Police Inspector arrested for taking Rs 70 lakh bribe, grabbing flat of senior citizen

Pune, June 9, 2020: A police inspector posted with the Special Branch of Pune City Police has been arrested for allegedly taking Rs 70 lakh and a flat from an elderly man for not arresting him in a cheating case. Crime Branch investigated the case and arrested Police Inspector Rauf Sheikh (55).

According to the information received, a case of fraud has been registered against the complainant at Bundgarden police station in 2017. He was not arrested for the crime. The case was handed over to the Cyber ​​and Economic Offences Wing of the Crimes Branch. Inspector Sheikh was conducting the investigation. At that time, Sheikh allegedly took Rs 70 lakh from accused and also grabbed his flat in Khadki area for not arresting him in the case.

 

However, Sheikh arrested the complainant who came out of jail after getting bail two months later. He lodged a written complaint with Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham who ordered DCP (Cyber&EOW) Sambhaji Kadam to conduct enquiry against Inspector Sheikh. It was found that Sheikh accepted Rs 70 lakhs bribe and took possession of a flat. Now an FIR has been registered against Inspector Sheikh and he been arrested.
