Pune Police Crack Down on Robbery Gang in Baner Hill Area

Baner, 18th October 2024: The newly established Baner Police Station has swung into action, arresting a group of individuals, including minors, involved in the robbery of a woman from Nagaland in the Baner Hill area. The group had been causing disturbances in the otherwise peaceful neighborhood.

The incident occurred on 13th October, around 4:15 PM, when the woman was robbed while walking with her friend by four unknown assailants.

Initially, the case was registered at Chaturshringi Police Station under sections 392 (robbery), 352 (assault or use of criminal force), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951.

The complainant, a 36-year-old woman from Nagaland who works in Pune, reported the crime. The case was later transferred to the newly formed Baner Police Station, where the Detection Branch (DB) apprehended Vishal Prabhakar Samukhrao, also known as Drapet (age 19, resident of Chikhali, native of Latur), along with two minors.

According to police reports, on 13th October, the complainant and her friend were walking on Baner Hill when they were confronted by four individuals, including minors, who verbally abused them. The attackers then assaulted the women with iron rods and robbed them of an iPhone, a bag, and other belongings worth Rs 51,000. The victim immediately reported the incident to Pune Police, who launched an investigation.

Acting on information from confidential sources, the police identified and tracked down Samukhrao and the other suspects. The police successfully recovered the stolen items, including the weapons used in the attack and the motorcycle involved in the crime, with a total value of Rs 1,10,700. The Baner Police are continuing their investigation.

This operation was led by Senior Police Inspectors Mahesh Balkotgi and Vijayanand Patil, and included Police Sub-Inspector Pranil Chougule and Police Constables Shrikant Waghwale, Babulal Tandale, Sudhakar Mane, Irfan Momin, Babasaheb Dangade, and Shridhar Shirke, from both Chaturshringi and Baner Police Stations.
