Pune Police Constable Shoots Himself With Service Weapon

Pune, 5th April 2024: A police constable posted with the Khadak Police Station of the Pune City Police took his own life by gunshot at the Lohiya Nagar police chowky on Friday early morning.

The incident took place during a time when the police chowky restroom on the first floor was unoccupied. The constable, identified as Bharat Datta Asmar, reportedly entered the room and locked the door before committing the tragic act. Preliminary reports suggest that Asmar, who had served in the police force for approximately eight to ten years, was on duty at the Lohiya Nagar Police Chowky, operating under the jurisdiction of the Khadak Police Station. The constable ended his life using a carbine rifle.

Upon learning of the incident, senior officials reached the spot. However, the reason behind the constable’s extreme step could not be ascertained yet.
