Pune Police Conduct Raid on ‘Plink- Cocktails, Cuisines, Cabaret’ in Yerawda for Illegal Liquor Sales

Yerawda, 29th June 2024: Despite crackdowns by the Pune City Police, Pune State Excise Department, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on illegal pubs, bars, and rooftop hotels operating beyond permitted hours, some operators have yet to comply with reforms.

Recently, it was discovered that ‘Plink- Cocktails, Cuisines, Cabaret’ at Creaticity Mall in Yerawda, was illegally selling foreign liquor and beer. Acting on this information, the Pune city police’s Social Security Cell conducted a raid last night around 9:30 PM, seizing liquor worth thousands of rupees.

Two individuals, Krishna Ramachandra Nevpane (34) and Gaurav Mangesh Wagholikar (25), both managers, were detained and handed over to the Yerawda Police station. Additionally, General Manager Deepak Devidas Mandwale (43), residing in Pimple Nilakh, and owner Vivek Dilip Chadda have been booked under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act of 1949 at Yerawda Police Station. The complaint was filed by Police Constable Avinash Konde of the Social Security Cell.

Following the recent Kalyani Nagar incident in Pune, concerns over illegal bars have intensified. There have been repeated violations of police regulations, prompting widespread criticism from political, social, and media circles about system efficiency. In response, the Pune State Excise Department, PMC, and Pune City Police have launched joint operations. PMC is actively demolishing unauthorized constructions in these establishments, while the State Excise Department has shut down nearly 70 bars under the Pune District Collector’s orders. The police continue to take legal action and file cases against offenders.

The raid on restaurant, Plink- Cocktails, Cuisines, Cabaret was based on information received by the Crime Branch, confirming the illegal sale of liquor without proper licenses.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke of Yerawda Police Station noted that the hotel operator was stealthily selling liquor, despite previous warnings and a recent joint raid by Yerawda Police and Pune State Excise Department on 6th June, which revealed stolen liquor being sold on the premises. Inspector Shelke emphasized the need for sealing the hotel and reiterated efforts to enforce compliance.
