Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th December 2023: In a proactive move to curb crime and enhance citizen safety in Pimpri Chinchwad city and the rural area of Maval taluka, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey has initiated the implementation of the MCOCA Pattern. This strategy aims to provide quick responses and relief to the citizens. Under his leadership, a total of 293 criminals have been booked under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) in the city during the current year.

Citizens in Pimpri-Chinchwad had expressed concerns over serious crimes occurring in industrial areas, prompting Commissioner Choubey to take decisive action. However, there has been a noteworthy reduction in serious crimes compared to the previous year, bringing relief to the citizens.

Notably, 102 gangs have been addressed in a five-year period since the establishment of the Commissionerate in 2018.

Police Commissioner Choubey has placed a strong emphasis on preventive activities, resulting in criminals fleeing. Since assuming office on December 14 last year, Commissioner Choubey has implemented various initiatives throughout the year, leading to a decrease in crime, as reflected in statistics.

The police have intensified their focus on armed gangs and individuals involved in serious crimes like extortion and kidnapping. Investigation teams from police stations, along with crime branch units, have been activated, contributing to increased crime resolution and arrests.

Special attention has been given to monitoring the movements of historical offenders released on bail, with a particular focus on their social media activities. This has led to an uptick in actions against individuals causing terror through social media.

Crime statistics for the current year show a significant reduction, with 54 murder cases registered under the Police Commissionerate from January to October. In comparison, there were 58 cases in 2019, 55 in 2020, 68 in 2021, and 67 in 2022 during the same period. Additionally, 94 cases of attempted murder were registered this year, indicating a substantial decrease compared to previous years.

Commissioner Choubey has encouraged filing cases and solving them, resulting in increased crime resolution and control. The police successfully handled critical incidents in Maval taluka, addressing challenges like the murder of Kishore Aware in Talegaon Dabhade and the sarpanch of Shirgaon. Despite serious crimes occurring in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mhalunge MIDC, and Chakan, swift police action led to the identification and arrest of suspects.

To address juvenile delinquency, various programs have been implemented for misguided minors, including counseling, education, employment training, and sports involvement. These initiatives aim to redirect the youth away from criminal activities, contributing to the overall control of juvenile delinquency.

Commissioner Choubey stated, “Our focus is on reducing crime in both urban and rural areas. Preventive actions play a crucial role in maintaining law and order. The MCOCA action against criminal gangs will persist, fostering a belief among the residents that the police are dedicated to aiding and securing citizens. Increased police visibility on the streets has enhanced communication with citizens, resulting in effective crime control.”
