Pune, 25th February 2024: The newly appointed Pune City Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner, Vikram Kumar, are set to actively address and alleviate traffic congestion in the city. The two commissioners will take to the streets to assess the situation, inspect 15 model roads under development by the PMC, and examine 41 intersections and 30 accident-prone areas.

A collaborative meeting between the PMC and the police was held at the police commissioner’s office to discuss the issue of traffic congestion in the city. Recognizing the need to address this challenge, both administrations decided to work together. The meeting involved officials from the PMC road department and the traffic police branch, focusing on presenting the current traffic issues, discussing required measures, and highlighting the crucial role of the police in addressing the problem.

During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police actively responded to the presentation and instructed police officers to promptly implement the suggested measures. The police officers were further directed to submit a report after the implementation of these measures for review in the next meeting. Additionally, it was decided that both the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police would jointly inspect 41 intersections and 30 accident-prone areas in the city.

Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of PMC, shared insights into the meeting, stating, “This meeting was called by the Police Commissioner to discuss the traffic problem in the city. In this, PMC gave information about ideal roads, along with missing links, bottlenecks in the city, places of accidents and measures being taken by PMC. After that, the Police Commissioner and the PMC Commissioner will soon conduct a joint inspection in the city.” The collaborative effort aims to comprehensively address traffic issues in Pune.
