Pune, December 23, 2020: In the last few years, thousands of criminals were released on bail by the Pune district and sessions court based on fake documents furnished by the sureties. Now Pune city police have busted a racket and arrested 37 persons with fake documents from outside the court premises. It is estimated that the gang has so far helped more than 25,000 accused get bail.

Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta had received information that some people were charging Rs 20,000 for standing surety for bail from the sessions court and Rs 12,000 for bail from the judicial magistrate (first class) court. All these persons used to submit forged documents.

Accordingly, different squads of two police inspectors and 27 trainee (probationary) police sub-inspectors and 12 staff were formed. Simultaneous raids were carried out near Gate No. 4 of Shivajinagar Court and other places on Tuesday. 31 male and six female accused were arrested. The accused have been doing such business for the last two years. Last year, Pune police had nabbed a similar gang. It has come to light that four to five of them have resumed their business after being released on bail.

While addressing a press conference today, Police Commissioner Gupta and Joint Commissioner Ravindra Shisve said that at present, it has come to light that four to five gangs are working in such a manner. The search is on for the mastermind of the gang. Six cases have been registered at Shivajinagar police station. The joint investigation into the crime will continue under the supervision of an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Police have recovered fake documents like Aadhaar card, salary slip, identity cards of companies, 7/12 land extracts etc.
