Pune Police Arrest Yerwada Central Jail’s Chief Medical Officer In Lalit Patil’s Escape Case

Pune, 4th December 2023: The Crime Branch of Pune City Police has arrested the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Yerwada Central Prison in connection with the escape of drug racketeer Lalit Patil from Sassoon Hospital.

Patil had left the hospital on October 2. An FIR has been registered in this regard at Bundgarden Police Station.

Crime Branch ACP Sunil Patil said, “Dr. Sanjay Kashinath Marsale (53), CMO of Yerwada Jail, has been arrested today in the case.”

According to officials, Patil, who was lodged in the jail in a drugs case, was shifted to Sassoon Hospital based on the medical advice of Dr. Marsale for the treatment of various ailments. Patil began operating the drug racket from the hospital. The incident came to light when the Crime Branch sleuths seized Mephedrone (MD) drugs worth Rs 2 crore near the gate of the hospital. However, sensing trouble, Patil escaped from the hospital on the night of October 2. He had been in Sassoon Hospital since June 2023.

He was later arrested from Bengaluru.
