Pune, 7th April 2023: A man from Telangana was arrested by Bibvewadi police in Pune for making extortion demands from political leaders, including BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar, and MNS corporator Vasant More’s son as well as former Congress corporation Avinash Bagwe.

The suspect, Imran Sameer Shaikh of Ghorpadigaon, was previously arrested for a similar crime and was out on bail. The investigation revealed that Imran committed the crime out of anger after the girl he wanted to marry refused his proposal.

According to police, Imran demanded extortion money from politicians and businessmen in Pune and surrounding areas, using the girl’s name as a pretext. The anti-extortion cell did a technical analysis and was able to track Imran down. He would give the number of the girl’s car and ask for the money to be brought to Kharadi.

Baba Misal, a former Bharatiya Janata Party corporator, was contacted by Imran for extortion last year. He was arrested in that case and was recently released on bail. He again started calling for politicians for extortion.

The police arrested Imran and revealed that he committed the crime with the intention of implicating the girl in the crime as she refused to love him. He runs a marriage bureau and had got the girl’s profile for registration. He wanted to marry her but she refused. Therefore, he tried to implicate her in the extortion cases by calling the politicians in her name.
