Pune Police Arrest Fake Policeman For Threatening, Beating Citizens Celebrating T20 World Cup Victory

Pune, 1st July 2024: The officials from Vishrambaug police station have arrested a man impersonating a policeman who threatened and assaulted citizens celebrating India’s T20 World Cup victory over South Africa.

The arrested individual, identified as Sumant Kishore Parte (22), a resident of Navi Peth, was found in possession of a fake Maharashtra Police identity card, a Central Industrial Security Force ID card, and a police uniform. Police said that Parte is unemployed and addicted to liquor.

The incident occurred around Saturday midnight near Alka Chowk, where a group of youths were celebrating India’s triumph. Parte, dressed in khaki-colored pants, confronted the cheering citizens and used a gun-like object to threaten and beat them. The altercation was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.

Based on a complaint from Police Constable Rahul Sonar, an FIR has been registered against Parte at the Vishrambaug police station. He has been charged with offences under IPC section 420 (cheating), 170 (impersonating public servant) and section 85 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
