Pune Police And RTO Join Forces To Crackdown On Drunk Driving; Rs 10,000 Fine, License Cancellation Imposed

Pune, 9th May 2023: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the Pune Traffic Police have teamed up to implement the Don’t Drink and Drive campaign in Pune. The initiative aims to crack down on drunk driving and imposes a fine of Rs 10,000 on offenders, with license cancellation also a possibility.

Jointly conducted by four RTO squads and the local traffic police, the campaign is targeting different areas of the city, including Mundhwa, Viman Nagar, Kothrud, and Koregaon Park. It operates from 9 pm to 12 midnight, and 12 individuals have already been caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor, cases are being filed against those caught drunk driving, with offenders sent to court. If found guilty, their driving license can be suspended for six months. The fine for first-time offenders is Rs 10,000, while repeat offenders face a higher penalty of Rs 15,000.

The campaign will continue until May 31 and seeks to reduce the number of accidents caused by drunk driving on Pune’s roads.
