Pune, May 6, 2020: With the announcement of lockdown 3.0 in the Maharashtra, there is a possibility of financial crisis in the state. Therefore, after May 3, the state government had allowed the sale of liquor in all the three zones red, green and orange. However, FIRs have been registered against nine liquor shops in Pune for not following the rules given while allowing the sale of liquor.

There are 2 shops within the limits of Vishrambag, Chandan Nagar police station and 7 shops within the limits of Hadapsar police station. Terms and conditions such as social distance, wearing of masks were given while giving permission.

The shops against whom action in Hadapsar are Rohit Wines near Shani Mandir, MR Wines in Sasanenagar, Asian Wines near Akashwani, SS Ghule Wines at Raskar Chowk, Ajantha Wines at Gadital, and Rajdhani Wines, Kunal Wines. They have been charged for putting people’s lives in danger, said senior police inspector Ramesh Sathe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station.

Apart from the containment zone in Maharashtra, conditional permission for sale of liquor was given on May 4. As a result, people have been crowding wine shops across the state since morning. As the queues for liquor purchases increased, all the wine shops were closed in Mumbai and Nashik.

Liquor shops in Mumbai were allowed to open in all areas except the containment zone in the red zone from May 4 to strengthen the economy by relaxing lockdown rules. However, discipline was not followed by Mumbaikars. After getting permission from the government, liquor shops were started in many parts of Mumbai. However, citizens resorted to crowding to get alcohol. Now Mumbai Municipal Commissioner has decided to impose a strict curfew, liquor shops in Mumbai will also remain closed. Other non-essential shops will also remain closed.
