Hinjawadi, 8th June 2024: On Thursday, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) initiated a special drive to demolish illegal pubs, hotels, bars, and rooftop restaurants operating within its jurisdiction. In a coordinated effort with the Pimpri Chinchwad police, the PMRDA’s anti-encroachment department dismantled illegal structures of 10 establishments in the Hinjawadi area in a single day.

This crackdown follows a survey initiated by the PMRDA after the May 19 Porsche Taycan crash, aiming to identify and take action against unauthorized establishments.

Anil Daunde, joint commissioner and head of the PMRDA’s anti-encroachment department, stated, “Ten establishments operating illegally in Hinjawadi, including two rooftop restaurants, were razed as the owners did not have the necessary construction approvals from our building permission department.”

Daunde explained that the owners of the two rooftop restaurants had initially obtained permission to install solar units on their terraces but were found to be running eateries instead. These establishments were located within the Hinjawadi gram panchayat limits under PMRDA’s jurisdiction. The operation cleared a total area of 97,815 square feet.

Additionally, PMRDA officials have surveyed establishments around Maan village and have issued notices to owners of illegal structures prior to taking action. A senior PMRDA official highlighted that survey teams are working closely with the building permission department to verify whether properties were constructed without the necessary permissions before proceeding with demolitions.

“Our teams are also surveying areas around Bhugaon and Bhukum, where many bars and restaurants are located. The drive will continue, and notices are being served,” added Daunde.

This ongoing effort underscores the PMRDA’s commitment to enforcing regulations and ensuring that establishments within its limits operate legally and safely.
