Pune, 11th October 2023 : In a move aimed at encouraging the use of public transportation over private vehicles and mitigating pollution, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has introduced a special discount scheme for weekend travellers planning their trip with a group of friends or family. Effective immediately, commuters in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad can enjoy a 25% discount in the fare on PMPML buses hired for special occasions on Saturdays and Sundays.

The new initiative is designed to attract more passengers to the public transport system during the weekends and reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the two cities. With weekends being a common time for people to plan leisure trips and outings, this discount is expected to incentivize citizens to choose eco-friendly and cost-effective public buses over personal vehicles.

PMPML’s occasional contract bus facility, which caters to personal and public events such as weddings, trips, and other occasions based on commuter demand, has been made more accessible through this discount scheme. The rates for the relevant contract bus facility, which includes pollution-free air-conditioned e-buses and CNG buses, are as follows:

Rates for Monday to Friday:

During the weekdays, from Monday to Friday, the PMPML has set specific rates for their contract bus facility. For an 8-hour booking period, spanning from 6 AM to 2 PM and 2 PM to 10 PM, passengers can avail of the service on CNG buses at ₹8,469, while the eco-friendly E-bus option is priced at ₹9,951. For extended journeys lasting 16 hours, running from 6 AM to 10 PM, the fare for CNG buses stands at ₹16,940, and for E-buses, it is ₹19,903. Additionally, for a 50 km one-way consignment, PMPML offers a fare inclusive of GST at ₹4,234 for CNG buses and ₹4,975 for E-buses.

Weekend Rates Subject to 25% Discount:

Over the weekends, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays, PMPML has introduced an enticing discount scheme to encourage public transportation use. The rates are as follows: For an 8-hour window, either from 6 AM to 2 PM or from 2 PM to 10 PM, the cost of travelling on a CNG bus is reduced to ₹6,352, and for an E-bus, the rate is ₹7,436.

For those who wish to embark on a more extended 16-hour journey, commencing at 6 AM and concluding at 10 PM, the cost for a CNG bus is slashed to ₹12,705, while E-bus enthusiasts can enjoy the discounted fare of ₹14,927. Similarly, the 25% discount is extended to the one-way consignment option for a 50 km distance, with the fare being set at ₹3,176 for CNG buses and ₹3,731 for E-buses.
