Pune: PMPML Electric Bus Catches Fire Near Fatimanagar, All Passengers Safe
Fatimanagar, 12th September 2024: A PMPML electric bus carrying 45 passengers caught fire near 93 Avenue Mall at the Fatimanagar Chowk junction in Wanowrie around 7:30 PM on Thursday evening. All passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The bus, which was en route from Dhayari to Hadapsar, had just crossed the Race Course on Pune-Solapur Road when some passengers began to notice a burning smell and alerted the conductor. A two-wheeler rider also flagged down the bus near Fatimanagar bus stop after noticing smoke emanating from the vehicle.
The driver promptly pulled the bus over, allowing all passengers to exit safely. Soon after, flames were spotted at the rear of the bus. Despite efforts to extinguish the fire using the bus’s fire extinguisher, the blaze continued. The fire brigade was called to the spot, and three fire engines were dispatched to control the fire.
The incident caused a brief traffic jam in the area, which was quickly cleared with the assistance of the local police. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
