Pune: PMC’s Solid Waste Truck Hits Tree Branch Resulting In One Death; Case Registered Against Officials

Pune, 6th September 2024: A bike rider died after a tree branch fell on him after a solid waste truck hit it in the Satav Nagar area on Handewadi road. In this regard, the Wanwadi police have registered a case against the truck driver of the Solid Waste Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with the officials and employees of the Garden Department.

The deceased has been identified as Pandit Fakira Patil (58), a resident of Vaishnavi City, Adarshnagar. Geeta Patil has filed a complaint in Wanwadi police station.

According to the information given by the police, Pandit Patil has a business of providing tiffin boxes. On the morning of August 8, he and his wife Geeta were driving on the Handewadi road in the Hadapsar area on a two-wheeler to deliver tiffin boxes to the customers.

A truck of the Solid Waste Department of the PMC was driving ahead of them. Due to the rain, the branch of the roadside mango tree was bent on the road. The truck driver ignored it only to hit the said tree branch in reckless driving. The branch broke and fell on Pandit Patil and his wife who were driving behind the said truck.

Pandit Patil was seriously injured in it and died during treatment. Wife Geeta lodged a complaint in this regard at Wanwadi police station on Wednesday (4th September). Based on this, the Wanwadi police have registered a case against the truck driver and the concerned officer of the Garden Department.
