Pune, 6th September 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has implemented a special program for Pune residents to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an environmentally friendly manner. The initiative ‘Murti Aamchi Kimat Tumchi’ has been undertaken urging citizens to buy idols made of clay instead of POP idols. The idols will be available at Ghole Road Art Gallery on Friday (6th September) and Saturday (7th September) from 10 am to 6 pm.

The activity is implemented through the Environment Department of the PMC and Liberty Earthenware Art. As the idols are made of clay, it dissolves in water in just two hours. If the Ganesha idol is immersed at home, the dissolved mixture can be poured into plant holders.

Citizens should celebrate environmentally friendly Ganeshotsav, even while decorating their place with the use of natural materials and biodegradable materials. The PMC has appealed that citizens should prefer to buy clay idols instead of using POP idols.

The PMC has provided manmade tanks for the immersion process along with the idol donation centres. This year, if the Ganesha idol is donated to PMC, the citizens will receive a bag of three kg of organic fertilizer. For this, a total of 15,000 fertilizer bags have been made available to 15 ward offices.
