Pune: PMC To Speed Up The Construction Of Metro Pillars And The Subway Near SPPU Chowk

Pune, 2nd June 2022: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will start the work of the proposed subway at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk in the next few days. Accordingly, PMC has instructed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority to erect the 100 pillars of Metro at Ganeshkhind road under Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi metro line. The work of erection of pillars should be expedited.
The University Chowk flyover has been demolished as it was obstructing the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi metro line. A two-story flyover is proposed in that area but the work on the flyover has not started yet. A traffic improvement plan has been drawn up after the flyover was demolished.
A subway is proposed under the flyover at University Chowk by the Municipal Administration. “Accordingly, the construction of the subway will start in the next few days”, informed Commissioner Vikram Kumar. The cost of the subway will be borne by the PMC and a consultant working on the Metro has been appointed for this purpose.
The process of elevating the pillars of the metro line is currently underway. There are hundreds of metro lines on Ganeshkhind road. A meeting was held between the officials of Municipal Corporation and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority regarding the work of Metro.
During the meeting, Vikram Kumar suggested to complete the process of elevation of pillars on Ganeshkhind road by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
In the meeting, the discussion regarding the use of additional manpower to expedite the work, abolishment of the sidewalks where necessary, removing road encroachments, taking over government office space and relocating some Central Government agencies were also proposed.
At present, a nine meter barrier has been elevated on Ganeshkhind road. In the meeting, it was also decided install it at a distance of 3 meters.
