Pune, 1 April 2021: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to send ambulances at the doorsteps of COVID-19 patients as a majority of them are taking the treatment at home without informing the doctors or the civic body.

These patients will be admitted to COVID centres. The patients, who have tested positive for COVID-19, but have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic prefer to stay at home. Currently, Pune has 29,000 such patients in home isolation.

According to PMC officials, the number of these patients will increase in the coming days. Hence, as a precautionary measure, the civic body has decided to send ambulances to the doorsteps of COVID-19 patients.

While taking various precautions to curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the PMC is also in touch with patients taking treatment at home. Similarly, it is providing treatment to the patients over the phone.

Stickers on the doors of patients

The PMC had pasted the stickers outside the houses of COVID-19 patients. However, it was discovered that these stickers have been removed. Hence, the civic body has decided to take action against such people.

PMC’s Infectious Disease Control Department Head Dr Sanjeev Wavare said, “COVID-19 positive patients should opt for home isolation only after consulting the doctors. Patients, who violate all the norms, will be admitted to COVID-19 centres in the city.”

Precautions to be taken in home isolation:

• COVID-19 patients should consult doctors.

• They should take the medicines as prescribed by the doctor.

• They should take all the precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection.

• The patients should maintain social distancing at all costs.
