Pune 6th Sept 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to create a dedicated Food zone in the city to avoid the issue of illegal street vendors. The decision in this regard has been taken in the anti-encroachment department meeting of the PMC on Tuesday. According to officials, the food zones will be created within a month’s period and the vendors who will set up their stalls in these food zones will be provided a license to operate.

The decision was taken considering the safety of citizens as several incidents of LPG cylinders blast have been reported at the street vendor’s shops in the past. The officials of the Anti-Encroachment department will soon conduct a survey to identify places at various spots to create food zones. This according to the officials will help PMC to streamline the process for the street food vendors in the city.

The PMC officials also said that the action against the illegal hawkers and street vendors will continue and the legal vendors will be shifted to the dedicated food zones.
