Kondhwa, 3rd May 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the tender process for the construction of a new tarmac road at a cost of Rs 22 crores near the ISKCON temple.

The road will pass through Tilekarnagar and Yewalewadi, and will be constructed at a width of 24 meters for a length of 1400 meters, while the remaining 600 meters of the road will be 10 meters wide. The proposal for the road construction is expected to come up for approval by the standing committee next week, informed VG Kulkarni, head of road department at PMC.

The road leading to Yewalewadi near the ISKCON Chowk on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road has been blocked for the past 8-10 years. Last year, the work was started during the monsoon season, but only 200 feet of the road was constructed, which subsequently failed. Despite the assurances given by people’s representatives of the area that the road work would be carried out soon after the election of the Municipal Corporation or Legislative Assembly, the citizens are still waiting for the work to be done. The citizens of Tilekarnagar, Kamthenagar, Pansarenagar, and Yewalewadi are suffering the consequences of the bad road, with frequent accidents causing injuries.

After citizens complained that the road was not being constructed, Commissioner Vikram Kumar promised that the work on the existing road would be completed. However, the promise of the Commissioner has not been fulfilled, and the citizens are expressing their anger.

The old road of Yewalewadi is an erstwhile route from Katraj to Khadi Machine Chowk, which is parallel to the road leading from Khadi Machine Chowk to Bopdev Ghat. Due to the inconvenience of coming to Pansarenagar, Yewalewadi from Khadi Machine Chowk, citizens prefer to use the carriage road, which is currently the busiest road in the area.

The construction of the new tarmac road is expected to provide a convenient and safe travel option for the citizens of Tilekarnagar, Kamthenagar, Pansarenagar, and Yewalewadi. The proposed road will not only improve connectivity but also promote the economic development of the area. The citizens hope that the road construction work will be started immediately after the approval is received by the standing committee, and will be completed as soon as possible.
