Pune, 20th April 2023: On Wednesday, the sky signs and license department of Pune municipal corporation (PMC) began taking action against unauthorized hoardings in the city. The decision to act on unauthorized billboards came after an incident in which five people lost their lives when an advertising board fell in Kiwale.

Although there are 2,629 unauthorized hoardings in the city, only 21 were taken down on Wednesday. Instead, more action was taken against cloth billboards, flags, murals, and kiosks. To tackle this issue, ten separate teams have been established at the ward level, and additional Commissioner Dr. Kunal Khemnar has been appointed to oversee the process.

Under the guidance of Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of Sky Signs and Licensing Department, action was taken against the unauthorized billboards under fifteen ward offices. So far, a total of 239 unauthorized billboards have been taken down, including 21 iron billboards, 173 cloth boards, 13 flags, 21 posters, and 15 kiosks. The people responsible for putting up billboards without a license will face legal action.

Jagtap has assured that strict action will be taken against unauthorized advertisement boards, posters, flags, cloth panels, and kiosks. While the action taken on Wednesday was slow, it is expected to pick up in the coming days as more teams are deployed across the city to remove unauthorized billboards.
