Pune, 7th August 2024: Due to a lack of coordination between the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Head Office and Ward Offices, various civic issues have remained unresolved. To address these problems promptly, mandatory monthly meetings have been instituted. PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP has released an office order in this regard and mandated that reports of these meetings be submitted to the Commissioner.

Numerous complaints have been continuously received by the PMC administration regarding the failure to resolve ward-level local works and civic issues at the local level. Consequently, citizens and NGOs have been escalating these civic issues to the offices of the Commissioner and Additional Commissioner of PMC. The lack of coordination between the head office and ward offices has been identified as a primary reason for the pending issues. To tackle this, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP has issued an office circular requiring a joint monthly meeting.

The circular mandates that all ward deputy commissioners of PMC should meet with assistant commissioners every month to review local problems. These meetings should cover the current status of ongoing development works within the field office and ensure coordination with the main departments. It emphasizes the need to complete sewage and road maintenance works without delay and to address grievances regarding street lights and water supply immediately. Problems related to solid waste management within the ward should not be ignored.

Additionally, the circular directs that information about schemes from the Central and Maharashtra State Governments should be effectively communicated to citizens, and tasks falling under the Ward Office’s jurisdiction should be completed promptly. Reports of discussions and measures taken during the meetings should be sent to the Commissioner’s office. Furthermore, the next monthly meeting should include details of the actions taken on issues discussed in the previous meeting.
