Pune, 7th November 2022: Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has ordered the zonal offices to take action and collect fines on unauthorized advertisement boards in the villages newly included in the Pune municipal limits. Therefore, it is clear that action will be taken by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and not by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on the unauthorized advertisement boards in the villages.

34 villages have been included in the municipal limits recently. These villages are under the control of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the authority’s independent sky sign department has been giving permission for billboards and taking action against unauthorized billboards. Therefore, there was confusion among the municipal officials regarding the action against the unauthorized advertisement boards in the villages.

A few days ago, the PMC conducted a survey about unauthorized advertisement boards in villages by a private company. It was found that there were 1,965 unauthorized advertisement boards. Of these, around 300 billboards have been proposed to be authorized so far. Out of the 23 villages included in the city, Wagholi, Manjari, Narhe, Bavdhan, Sus, and other areas have a large number of unauthorized billboards. In this, there are as many as 799 unauthorized advertisement boards under the Nagar Road Ward Office.

Against this backdrop, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar held a meeting with the officers of the Sky Signs Department. At that time, he ordered the sky sign and license as well as the field office officials to take action and collect the fine. The state government has given powers to PMRDA only in respect of the construction department. They have no other rights. Therefore, Commissioner Vikram Kumar explained that immediate action should be taken against unauthorized advertisement boards in villages.
