Pune: PMC Introduces Single Window Permissions for Ganeshotsav Mandaps and Arches

Pune, 21st August 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has streamlined the process for Ganeshotsav Mandap and Welcome Arch permissions by extending the validity of permits issued in 2019 for five years. This move means that license holders from 2019 will not need to reapply for new permissions for this year’s celebrations.
However, for Ganesh Mandals seeking new permissions or needing to change the location of their 2019 setup, a “single window scheme” has been introduced, which will be implemented at respective police stations as a joint initiative between PMC and the Pune City Police.
Mandals looking to set up new pavilions or make changes to previously permitted locations must follow the 2019 procedures to obtain fresh permissions. PMC has clarified that no additional license fees will be charged for this.
The PMC has also set guidelines for the construction and setup of Ganeshotsav mandaps:
Height Restriction: The height of the Utsav Mandap should not exceed 40 feet. If a mandap taller than this is required, the concerned Mandal must submit a stability certificate from an authorized structural engineer, ensuring the structure’s safety.
Road Safety: Adjacent roads must remain clear for emergency vehicles. All erected structures, including pavilions and arches, must not obstruct emergency pathways.
Environmental Guidelines: Ganesha idols should ideally be made from environmentally friendly materials such as shadu clay. The Pollution Control Act and guidelines issued by the Maharashtra State Government’s Environment Department must be strictly adhered to throughout the festival.
Post-Festival Clean-Up: Mandals are required to remove all pavilions, arches, brick constructions, idols, and other materials from the road at their own expense within three days of the festival’s conclusion. Additionally, any road damage, including potholes, must be repaired with cement concrete, ensuring the area is returned to its original condition.
Noise Pollution: Mandals must comply with all government rules concerning noise pollution during the festival.
Dr. Rajendra Bhosle, Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, and Somnath Bankar, Head of the Anti-Encroachment Department, have urged all Ganeshotsav Mandals to display their permits from 2019 or newly obtained permits on the facade of the mandap or arch, encased in a plastic coating for protection.
This initiative aims to make the Ganeshotsav celebrations more organized and environmentally conscious while ensuring public safety and convenience.
