Kharadi, 10th July 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) continued its crackdown on illegal structures in Kharadi on Tuesday, demolishing constructions spanning over 10,000 square feet.

Rajendra Bhosale, the administrator of PMC, stated, “We have planned joint drives to intensify action against encroachments and illegal constructions throughout the city. The head of the anti-encroachment department will coordinate with ward offices to conduct these operations.”

Bhosale added that staff members from the anti-encroachment department, currently assigned to other duties such as election work or property tax recovery, will be redeployed to support these drives. “In the first phase, we aim to clear encroachments on footpaths and roads in no-hawker zones. Additionally, illegal businesses on busy roads and footpaths will be removed,” he said.

Efforts will also be made to designate specific areas for licensed vendors as per the roadside vendor policy, Bhosale noted.

An official highlighted that this intensified action comes just two days after an alleged drug party was busted at a lounge on FC Road. Prior to this, the PMC had already undertaken drives against illegal constructions in various parts of the city.
