Pune, 5th December 2023: A new structure is set to be erected at the Bhide Wada site in Budhwar Peth, designed as a national monument. The new monument will pay homage to the contributions of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule, renowned for their pioneering efforts in eliminating the darkness of ignorance and empowering women through education.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken control of the Bhide Wada site for this purpose, and plans for the construction have been submitted by four architects. The proposed structure aims to replicate the old Wada while incorporating modern technology. The final plan will be decided following a presentation to PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar.

The significance of the Phule couple’s social work, particularly the school within Bhide Wada, is expected to be prominently reflected in the design. The interior of the building will be crafted to evoke the atmosphere of the school as it existed in 1848, providing visitors with a historical experience. Additionally, the structure will feature a canopy, enhancing its architectural appeal.
