Pune: PMC Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Advisory To Combat Rising Fire Incidents

Pune, 15th February 2024: The Fire Brigade Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an advisory to address the increasing incidents of fire in the PMC limits.

According to the advisory, “The Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, is applicable throughout Maharashtra, and under section 3(1) of the Act, it is mandatory for any building or its components deemed necessary to implement fire prevention measures. Additionally, as per section 3(3), it is obligatory to maintain and implement these measures & submit necessary certificate.

In the PMC area, citizens and establishments (such as high-rise buildings, cinemas, theaters, hospitals, educational and commercial complexes, malls, electrified markets, large commercial offices, etc.) are advised to adhere to Sections 3(3) of the ‘Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006’. They must ensure the implementation and maintenance of fire prevention measures in their buildings, and the prescribed certificate – ‘Form B’ from licensed agencies must be submitted twice a year, in January and July, to the Chief Fire Officer’s office, Central Fire Station, Mahatma Phule Peth, Timber Market, Pune-411042. Alternately, ‘Form B’ can also be sent to the following email id: [email protected] as per the aforementioned timelines.

Failure to submit ‘Form B’ on time and in case, subsequently there is any mishap in such premises then the building owner or the occupier will be held accountable for such incident. Also, If the prescribed Form ‘B’ as per “The Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006’ is not submitted, the Fire Safety Department may initiate necessary action as per Section 8(2) and Rule 11(1) of the said act. This includes the termination of water and electricity supply to the buildings deemed unsafe for Fire prevention. “

For PMC, the major challenge in implementing this advisory would be in the newly included 23 villages.
