Shivajinagar, 4th December 2023: The building development department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) executed a robust anti-encroachment action today by removing 70 stalls from Shirole Mall near Roopali Hotel on FC Road, Pune. Over the past few days, the department has been actively cracking down on various hotel businesses and mall owners in the Shivajinagar area.

The Shirole plot hosted an unlicensed two-storey mall constructed with iron angles and girder sheets, housing 70 small and large shops. Despite a notice from the municipal corporation prompting action at this location, the owner had obtained a stay order from the High Court, preventing any action for the last eight years.

To overturn the eight-year-long stay order, the administration enlisted the expertise of a senior lawyer and promptly filed a caveat in the High Court. This strategic move enabled the municipal corporation to take immediate action, resulting in the demolition of approximately 7 thousand square feet of unauthorized construction.

The officials said that the presence of the mall had caused significant traffic congestion on FC Road. Moreover, the lack of proper ventilation and the substantial crowd of customers and sellers posed a potential risk of a life-threatening incident, especially in the event of a fire.
