Pune: Plastic Ban Action Taken By PMC, 1,000 Kg Plastic Seized

Pune, 29th December 2022: Solid Waste Management Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified the action for the effective implementation of the plastic ban.

Under that, the action was taken in the Market Yard and Wagholi area and a total of 1,050 kg of plastic was seized by the Solid Waste Management Department. A fine of Rs 55,000 was also recovered.

Production, use, sale, transportation, handling, and storage of plastic and thermocol has been banned as non-biodegradable waste has adverse effects on the health of citizens. In this regard, the Environment Department of the state government has passed a notification, and orders have been given to the local self-government bodies to act on the notification. Accordingly, this campaign has been undertaken by the PMC.

The Solid Waste Management Department of the Municipal Corporation took punitive action through the officials of the Central Pollution Control Board and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board in the Phulbazar and Wagholi areas in the market yard. 450 pieces of plastic were seized from the market yard area and five actions were filed. A fine of Rs 25,000 was recovered from it. Information was given by the municipal administration that 600 kg of plastic was seized while collecting a fine of Rs 30,000 in four operations in the Wagholi area.

Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department Asha Raut, Scientific Assistant Vishal Bhandari, a team of Additional Director of Central Pollution Control Board Shashikant Lokhande, Field Officer of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Sandeep Patil, Chief Health Inspector of Municipal Corporation Imamuddin Inamdar, Health Inspector Rajesh Raskar, and Umesh Devkar carried out this action.
